Learner Diversity exists among children entering Year One of the Primary Schools each year. This diversity is due to individual differences in socioeconomic status, ethnicity, kindergarten experiences, level of intelligence, family structure, and academic readiness. In Malaysia approximately 50% of the entrants to Primary One do not have the opportunity to attend preschool. Thus these children lack the head start which other advantaged children possess.
The Malaysian Education Development Plan (2001-2020) propagates that every child should be given the opportunity regardless of his or her background. This is to ensure that equity and no gap exists between children in achievement. In order to achieve this goal educationists need to be more aware of the child's readiness to school through evaluation of the child's readiness. WEBEASR was developed to assist parents, and teachers to achieve this objective.
